For the Love of the Sixth and Seventh Senses

About a year ago I was ecstatic to discover there was a formal school that taught people how to become psychics and spiritual mediums. A real bricks and mortar school that hadn’t just popped up a few years ago on the internet. The name of the school is the Arthur Findlay College in Essex England for those of you that share my fascination with these abilities.

The first class I took was called Highlighting the Evidence. It was designed to teach that when we’re truly in the presence of a spirit person, the information we give to the sitter (the person receiving the reading) will allow them to know which one of their loved ones is communicating with them.

I was lucky enough to be partnered with somebody skilled in spiritual mediumship that said no to most of the evidence I was offering to her.  When she arrived at a maybe, she kept pushing me to continue until I could give her at least one piece of evidence that would allow her to know which spirit was communicating with her.

When we got to yes, I started thinking. My brain tried so hard to make connections between this person and the preconceived notions I held about familial roles, cultural ancestry, and societal stereotypes.

These thoughts stood in the way of my ability to connect any further.  If I had to give myself a letter grade, it would have been D.

When it was my turn to be the sitter, the medium actually embodied the physical mannerisms of either one of 2 aunts, or my paternal grandmother.  The message that came through was true to me (they acknowledged the work I’d done on self love), and it didn’t glean any insight beyond what I already knew to be true.

It was a “meh” experience in terms of meeting my expectations, but a wow experience for what it taught me.

First, I needed to let go of more of my ego if I wanted to get better at this. There were still thoughts and pride standing in the way of my ability to be a clear channel.

Second, what kind of a message was I hoping to get from the spirit realm? If being seen by my familial ancestors for the work I’d done on self acceptance wasn’t the big shiny glamorous stroke of genius message I was hoping for, what did I want?

It wasn’t until a few weeks or months later that I could answer that question. After signing up for a few more classes and practicing with a friend, I realized that the reason I was drawn to learning psychic and spiritual mediumship abilities at all was because I wanted to learn to trust myself more.

Psychics and mediums often receive messages that don’t make logical sense to the reader or the sitter in real time. And so, to give or receive a message requires an unequivocal level of self trust.

A lot of our self trust gets eroded as we go about our lives. We get hurt, rejected, and disappointed, and we might start to doubt there is any reason to trust ourselves at all. There is!It’s what get us from where we are to where we want to be, or keeps us happy where we are.
