is camp of the woods a fishing resort?

The main question I get asked by people that are curious about the who comes to Camp of the Woods is “are you mainly a fishing resort?”

People are surprised when I tell them no.

Most of the people that come here, don’t come to fish. In fact, I’m not sure that’s the reason anybody has ever come here (other than the boat launch customers).

You can come here to fish if you like, but you don’t have to fish to come here.

Some people come here for a break.

Some people come for a change of scenery.

Some people come here to be with their friends and family.

Some people find community here.

Some people come here to watch birds.

Some people finish creative projects here.

Some people come to eat hamburgers, hot dogs, and roast marshmallows.

So while there is everything here that fish lovers need to fish - docks to park boats at, a boat ramp to put a boat in the water, and docks to fish off of - it doesn’t seem to be THE REASON why people camp here.
